I spent a considerable amount of time this weekend reacquainting myself with a fantastic computer. It’s small, powerful, and extremely affordable.  I’m talking about the Raspberry Pi. I’ve had my Raspberry Pi for a little over a year and it is so much fun.  I purchased the deluxe kit and it only cost about $100.

I’ve used my Raspberry Pi mainly to stay sharp on my Linux skills.  One of the fantastic tools for exploring different Pi operating systems is NOOBS (New Out Of the Box Software). This tool allows you to set up several different operating systems right from a GUI interface menu.  It is fantastic!

This handy tool has allowed me to work with Raspbian Linux, Pidora, RISC OS, OpenElec, RaspBMC, and Arch Linux. NOOBS let me install all of these on a single 16 GB SD card with a 512 data partition.  Then, when I boot the SD card, I’m able to select the OS I want right from a convenient boot loader.

In the coming days, I think I will use Raspbian to build an Apache webserver running WordPress. It’s been a while since I installed Apache and WordPress.  I’ll let you know how it goes.  It should be a lot of fun.

Cheers,

Glen
